I have a 57 gallon tank (well non-technically a standard "55" gallon), and I want to convert it into a planted tank. The fixtures I have hold two bulbs. I don't really know how to modify anything so it holds more lights, but will having two lights of 55 watts (even though that will be 2 wpg) have enough power to grow plants? I don't have the dimensions of the tank here at hand, because I'm at school, but it's a standard "55" gallon, as mentioned before, so it's about 4 feet long by 1 foot wide by 2 feet tall (Just an approximate guess).

So what should I do for lighting, so I can still achieve 2 wpg, but have enough power ?

Thanks in advance,

I grew plants in a 57 gallon tank using 2* 3ft T8s without any additives and without any problems. If anything, 110 w of light over a 55 gallon tank is far too much for *just* plant growing, you will very likely need to add CO[sub]2[/sub] and fertilisers for them to do well.
