Hi I will be setting up a 120 gallon planted tank and I was wondering what my options are for lighting. Price is not a concern as Iā€™ve been saving for a long time. The tank is six feet long and I wouldā€™ve liked to go with the Fluval plant spectrum but no size is long enough. Does anyone have suggestions? Thanks so much

Hi and welcome to the forum :)

How tall is the tank?
If the aquarium is 2 foot or higher you need spotlights to get enough light down to the plants. Most hardware stores and lighting stores sell LED spotlights that you can hang above the tank. You would need 3 x 150 watt LED spotlights for a 6x2x2ft tank. Try to get lights with a 6500K globe.

If you buy 1 light from a hardware, you can take it home and try it above the tank. Turn the light on and put your hand just under the surface of the water. If you get a good shadow of your hand on the substrate, you have enough light. If you don't get a good shadow, then return it and go for 200 or 250 watt light units.
