I work some odd hours so I generaly spend half an hour in the morning and one or two at night at the fish tank. So at the moment my tank lights are running from 6:30 to 21:30, 15 hours in total and if I get home after 21:30 I still switch the light on to feed them and relax for 1/2 hour. The question is has anyone tried splitting the cycle in two i.e. let the lights stay on from say 5:30 too 11:30 then back on at 17:30 till 23:30. What effect would this have on the fish ect. The live plants should not be affected, they would get their 12 hours, my algae should be less and I could see the tank whan Iam at home.

Hi luma,

15 hrs is alot and could lead to algae problems.

There is no problem splitting the lighting cycle, this is what I do myself to a total of eleven hrs with at least a 4 hr gap (the gap is for algae control though)

Hope that helps

:)

Thanks I will set my timers tonight, this will be good for me and algae control. :D
