This is the website to my local fish store hereand i was just wondering if anyone could give me any thoughts on it. I was going to go take a look at it in the morning but it appears to be closed on mondays. Does it look trust worthy or do ppl hav any suspicions about it? or has anyone been there and got any thoughts about it
plz any info would be grateful

The site is down. :/

Anyways, the best way to check and see if a lfs is trustworthy is to go there and check it out. Some of the more suspicious members on this forum ahve asked questions that only adept or at least relatively adept fish handlers would know.

The best way to know is to check out the health of the stock and to see if the associate that helps you can tell you when they got the latest shipment, if they hold fish for you until they've been with them for a few weeks, etc.

Good luck.

It looks good to me, but of course they are trying to make themselves look good so people will shop there.

Check out the health of their stock, and either ask a "test" question with a really obvious answer like "How many oscars can I keep in a twenty gallon tank", or just listen in on the advice they're giving to others to see if it seems sensible.

Their tanks should be clean, minimal numbers (pref. zero!) dead fish, no diseased fish, no fish with incompatible tnakmates.

Hi franc1987 :)

It looks good on the website, but sometimes looks can be deceiving.

My favorite lfs, which I trust above all others, has been in it's same location for a long time. It is not fancy at all, and if the truth be told, it could benefit from a coat of paint on the walls. But, everyone who works there keeps fish themselves and are frank enough that if they can't answer a question correctly, they will tell you so.

One thing I was impressed by was that they mentioned that all their fish are quarantined before they are sold. This is a good thing that most lfs do not do because of space limitations. If they are held for a week or so it would give the fish time to adjust to your local water and for any illnesses they might be coming down with to show themselves.

Good luck and please let us know what you think of them after your visit. :D

Looks good and decent looking website, but like others have said, go in and test them.

Let us know how you get on, I'd like to know as I'm only in Chesterfield so I could pop in.

If you're not happy, take a short ride down the M1 to J28 (same junction as McArthur Glen amd go to Wharf Aquatics, been there and it is really good. All the staff I've spoken to knew what they were talking about and took time to explain things.

I asked about a clown loach and they asked my tank size, when I told them a 10G they said, no it's too small, I said I intended to get a 55G they said come and talk when you get your tank, but be aware they need to be in 3 or more. SOund advice I think.

They also have a 1,500 Gallon tank to look at and loads of things like a big puffer, electric eal, several rays and lots of others I cant remember. There is a room full of tropicals, another room for coldwater with big tanks and ponds indoors another room is being built right now and upstairs there is a reptile room.

Website for Wharf Aquatics is here
