Does anyone know a good way to fix a leaky canister filter seal? without buying an O-ring replacement.

I already used plumber tape and black electrical taoe and I don't know if it's safe to use or not.

It's probably easier to find a new o-ring and put a thin layer of Vaseline on it.

I have had electrical tape drop into an aquarium and it didn't affect the fish over the few days it was in there. However, the glue on the tape could be an issue if the fish are exposed to it long term. If you use the tape on the outside of the filter and the water is not in contact with the glue, then it's fine.

The only other option is making an o-ring out of silicon. Sometimes there work and sometimes they don't.

Yes get a new one, but every time the canister is opened lubricate the seal with Vaseline of slightly cleaner olive oil does the trick.
