Hey guys, I am wanting some advice on larger tetras style fish for my tank.

I was thinking Columbian Red Fin Tetras but as I already have 3 Silver Dollars and 3 Scalare Angels, I want something to add some colour.

The crisis started when my shoal of Cardinals and Neons disappeared rapildy since putting a new baby Angel in so I need something larger that can school..........

My tank is just under 4ft long so I have the room.

Any ideas??????

Tank mates are:

2 x Large Angels
1 x small Angel
1 x Large Silver Dollar
2 x Small Silver Dollars
1 x Opaline Gourami
1 x Green Phantom Plec
1 x Small MegaClown Plec
1 x other small plec I cant remember the name of..............

IMO, the prettiest tetra is the congo. At about 3", they are also larger than most tetras. Not certain if those are colorful enough for you though but the list of "larger" tetras is pretty short. I have never kept columbians before but seem to remember reading that they are more nippy than other tetras although the profile on TFF does not mention that. If that is the case though, they probably wouldn't be the best additions to a tank with angels.

Ohh thanks alot, given me something to look at. :)

They dont have to be Tetras by the way.

did you have a look at them

you said colourful but their black counterparts the bp tetras seem to be more hardy

I did have a look at them but a couple of sites said they only grow to 1.5-2" so I fear they would get eaten by the baby Angel!

yeh sorry about that that was based on the fish keeper at the shop inteigence (non exsistant) lol yeh apparently so
they do get to around 1 and a half inches ...sorry they probs will get mucnched

Are you speaking of Congos or black/red phantoms? I have BP tetras with my angels and 1.5" is probably about right. They are large bodied enough, that unless your angels are large and the tetras are small (juvies), you shouldn't have a problem. Mine were introduced into the tank at the same time though and the angels were only about an inch long. As for the congos, they definitely grow larger than normal tetras. Most I see in the shops around here are already 2" or more. Definitely shouldn't be an issue with the angels eating them. Biggest drawback with congos though is the price. Most places near e sell them for $15 and up. So a nice shoal of 10 is expensive (the only reason I still don't have any).
