Hi and welcome to the forum :)

It looks like a wound, possibly from fighting or cutting itself on something in the tank. They normally heal up by themselves without medication but it depends on how long it has been like that for. If it's been like that for more than a week and is not getting better, you might need to treat the tank with a broad spectrum fish medication.

How long has it been like that?

Hi thank you for the response. It’s been there for a week but started out really small then it blossomed over night into the size it is now. And the white on the edges has increased. He eats fine, in a 70 gallon tank. Ph, nitrates and ammonia levels are all good.
