I have two koi Angels and they are acting really funny, one is very aggressive and the other I can't seem to find in my tank. It's like someone fished him out. What could be causing these two to behave so oddly when the others in my tank act just fine?? Any ideas ya'll?

maturing?? Angels are cichlids and can have aggressive personalities. How big are they? Tank size? Tank mates?

size is everything. if the angel thats hiding is a smaller angel, it is hiding out of fear. it could have been beaten to death if its not alive. if it is alive, has it been nipped? i have had marble angels hide from a koi before; one ended up dead and one overcame his fear and lived fine.

These angels are in a 46 gal tank, they are mostly with thread finned rainbow fish, the angels are not very old. The one Koi is just gone, the other only picks on the Marble but he is a little smaller than the marble

From this; You have 2 Angels

From this; You have 3 Angels. These are cichlids that are aggressive and territorial. You are lucky if you can get two angels to live in peace. 4 or more is your magic number for "peace". Three, and one will most likely get bullied.

.... take it or leave it. my experience (and research).

My guess is that the missing angel died and others ate him and you may find remains. For some reason, remains, because they have no or little color are not as noticeable to me. Sorry about that. If the angels are not that old then it can be a bit shocking when their behavior starts to change as they. I have a pair that were just cute as heck when they were little. Now they spawn every 2-3 weeks and right around there they do some battling. I was worried enough last week I shut the lights out to calm them down. Then they get over it and they are buddies. I had another two in another tank and they were nasty. Two of them started hunting neons, killed one and an oto, or at least harassed them to death. And these angels were only about an inch across the body. I only have one now, gave the other to the lfs, and that one is pretty nasty to the apistogrammas in the tank. What I'm trying to say is they do get nasty for many reasons I suppose and there are plenty of stories about them killing one of their own.

Sorry for the news but in part that is a cichlid for you.

for future reference, buy angels of the same size as your tank's angels.
I agree -good advice from AstonN24vantage. It's definitely easier adding more angels when the newcomers are the same size. I've just added a black angel to my other 4, all roughly the same size. They ignored it completely at first but now all 5 are swimming together. Yes I know it's highly likely that I will end up with a pair now and angel war could break out.If they pair up the happy honeymoon couple cam move in with my gourami and upside down cat.

Thats mad because IME adding smaller angels works better. But that might be because i usually have about 8ish and they shoal. Maybe thay have a type of hierarchy and smaller ones aint seen as a threat?

adding smaller angels will prob not be good - the new fish will be stressed already, and to have to fear another few angels that are bigger is not a good idea. if anything, slightly bigger is better, but your best off getting same size.

Like i said i find smaller angels easier to mix with a large group but maybe because i have so many angels. Everytime ive added one around the same size as the others there has been fights and ripped fins. If i add a smaller one they dont pay attention to it. Thats why i think there might be a hierarchy between them in large groups. But i have found in smaller groups this isnt always the case
