So I set up my plated tank about 3-4 weeks ago and it's still getting over the initial teething problems. The majority of the plants have had a massive amount of new growth (apart from the rotala macrandra whose leaves at the bottom seem to be disintegrating faster than the new growth can come through). I noticed yesterday that the new leaves of the amazon sword are coming through fairly transparent and really needs a nutrient boost.
At the moment I have API First Layer Laterite in there but I don't know what else to put in there. I have used these fertiliser sticks before that seemed to work well. Can those be used or their own or do they have to be accompanied with a liquid additive? What would you recommend?

I use love fish aquarium fertilliser and only give half the reccomended dose. its strong stuff. Even with only half the amount i get problems with algae if i use it for any considerable length of time...

oh, i love the axolotls :)

Algae is not caused by excess ferts in the water, its caused by lack of.

maybe i should use the full amount. If i out ferts in pea soup would it go away?
