A few nights ago I had dinner with Singaporean Betta breeder Phil Ngo. He gave me a few tips on keeping crowntails rays straight.

First is to use a large tank to give them room to swim. 2.5 gallon minimum. Second was that they like a little current. Apparently, a combintation of these two helps.

Of course, good water quality is important, probably more than with other tail types.

Well, that's just interesting, my CTs are kept in the divided 10g, and there's a slight current. The rays are straight. Could be a coincedence (sp), but it's still nice to hear new information.

I've heard that a lot of Thai breeders put their CTs with bent rays out in the sun to help them straighten out... apparently it has something to do with a vitamin D deficiency? :dunno:

I heard all that too. That's why in my fry tank of possible crowns (or at least some combs) I've got my filter on high. They get blown around a little, but they're okay. ^^ Getting nice strong little bodies hehheheh

On the D thing, that's interesting. I keep my window open for my orchids, so I hope they get enough light.

Forgot that one. Phil mentioned that too. Yes. If a crown has bent fins, sunlight helps.
