Hi,

i was wondering what everyones views were on keeps bettas with guppies, i read alot on the internet saying no you should never keep them together but then on alot of the fourms people are saying they keep theres with betta happily my male betta seems to get along with all the fish i have in my tank which include goldring hillside loach, phantom black tetras, cherry barbs and some small catfish. I was just wondering what you guys think as i would like to get a few guppies but don't want to cause any problems in my tank.

I would personally say it depends on the betta him self.
The problem is that the long flowing colourful fins can be a threat to a male betta as he thinks its another male.

As you mentioned it works for some but not for others...

very rare it works with male bettas and male guppies, the only success i have had is female betta with female guppy

Instead of guppies, you could have some male endlers.
They're colourful & don't have the big tails that male guppies have, that could cause the Betta to nip them
I have some in with my Betta & they get on just fine
