Hi, i have a Juwel Trigon 190 and want to change one of the light tubes. I want a 'marine blue', but i dont know what type i need?? It says on the light tubes i already have 'Juwel 28w' but looking on the net, all i can find is 24w & 30w. I dont even know if its a t8 tube or t5 ?? is there even a difference ??

I wouldn't mind buying one online, so if anyone could find one for me, i would really appreciate it !! (has to be in uk btw). or any help at all would be great. Thanks.

A lot of scockists are still selling Juwel tanks with T8 light units - these are about 1" diameter and if yours are 28w they will be T8's. Some bulb manufacturers are giving their bulbs a slightly higher wattage rating though this rarely translates into higher light output - easiest thing to do is measure the tube and then you won't go far wrong as they all list the tube length on the sleeve.

Ok, thanks for replying. After doing abit of research, ive found that they're actually 'Juwel High-Lite' (T5) tubes like 5teady suggested. Thanks :good:

t5s are small in diameter but larger in wattage, t8s are what you have, i dont know if you could get a marine blue in t8 but i know that jewel aquariums now sell a t5 lighting system, this has been designed for the marine aquariums but will fit in jewel tanks if i were you id stick to a white and natural purple colour it will show off your fishes better :good:

Yes, just for the record I believe the standard that generates the terms "T8" and "T5" goes as follows:

The 8 refers to 8 parts to the inch. A T8 is 8/8 of an inch, or 1 inch wide. A T5 is 5/8 of an inch wide.

Once you know this rule, it is easier to visualize the thickness of a given light tube, given the T number.

Hope this helps,
