Hi all,

I have my new Juwel Rio 180 Aquarium and Cabinet set up now and have had for 2 weeks, I am replacing the top white sponge weekly so am running out, I also want to replace the carbon and nitrate sponges with just the normal blue course sponges, the issue i have is that i am not sure what size sponges i have, There is a choice of Compact, Standard and Jumbo.

Anyone have any idea what sizes i should have?

Thanks

When i was using the standard internal filter in my old juwel i got told to just wash the top white sponge in tank water in a bucket/jug and it would be fine.

i buy the ones that say Standard/Standard H/ BioFlo 6.0 as the internal filter on the Rio 180 is the bioflo 6.0. The only issue is with the white pads that you buy for it, They are slightly bigger than the ones you get with the filter so they need cutting to size or you can squeeze them in and they work just fine

its the compact sponges you need. I swapped the green for another ceramic media box and the carbon for a fine blue sponge. All it going well, this filter has been running for 3 months now with perfect water stats.

Just clean the filter pads in tank water, no need to buy new ones. The top small white filter floss does need to be replaced regularly but a cheaper alternative is to visit your LFS and but a filter pad used for ponds and cut to size. 3 or 4 pounds should buy enough for 6 months.
