Hello ,
I have had this 160 litre tank for around 1 and a half years now and for the first year and a bit i had marine but around 2 months ago i changed it to tropical ... (Just to let you know i did give it a massive clean)
I have been waiting around 2 months now for the water to stabilize.
On thursday i want to get 4 fish ... Is that too many ?
I am going to get :
1 x Electric Yellow Cichlid
1 x Leopard Ctenopoma
1 x Albino Rainbow Shark
1 x Pearl Gourami

Thanks For Your Help

Hi welcome to the forum! When you say you have been waiting for the water to stabilize have you been adding household ammonia to keep a filter alive?

Unfortunately that mix of fish isnt compatable, the electric yellow cichlid is too aggressive for the other fish. I think that you might be okay with rest but the ctenopoma and gourami might have issues. I would add in a few harliequin rasboras and cherry barbs and it will be a nice little tank :) But yeah forget the cichlid

Thank You
I am going to get a Pearl Gourami and 2 other around the same size and temperament fish ...
Any ideas ?

Thanks again.

Agree with Wills. The choice of fish will not matter much if they are introduced to a tank that has not been prepared to sustain them. The preparation of a "biofilter" requires other actions than just leaving the water to stabilize (although we may not know what you mean by this!) There are two particular species of bacteria we need to grow in the biomedia portion so that it will be able to handle the waste products of the fish from both respiration and digestion! All the species of freshwater fish you are considering will need a biofilter doing this properly as a baseline to sustain them. Let us know what you had heard about this and we can help.
