ok so for future planning a 45 gallon tank how many fish should i have in the tank assuming 50% weekly water changes
It also depends on the dimensions of the tank, 40 gallon long tanks would be better for fast swimming fish that like to zip around the tank where a 40 gallon tall may be better for large slow moving fish or fish that like to sit in one spot that would probably prefer this type of tank . My largest tank is a 55 gallon which IMHO is the best size since it gives you plenty of room but does not take over a room. I have several shoals of small tetras in it.
