Just Got My First Live Plant… Need Help

I just got some dwarf hairgrass! It came in a little pot type thing and when I pulled it out of the pot there was some insulation type stuff around the roots. So i just put it in the sand like that. Was I suppose to pick all of the stuff off the roots before i put it in the sand? I've never bought live plants before so i have no idea. thanks in advance!

you should remove it from the roots, dwarf hairgrass should also be supplemented with excel or easycarbo
