In Florida you can do this. Here? Even with native tide pool things...keeping them cool in summer would be too costly. Our Pacific does not warm in summer..so everything in a Kelp bed dies at 65F+..roughly. Maybe mud flats animals..crabs and the like..not sure.
Anyways people think Mangroves are the answer to all their reef problems so I present:

I'm now thinking that yes,A person could set up a SF bay mudflat pond. THOSE creatures see water from the high 40's to over 80F all the time over the course of a year. If it's a small pond- cover in winter to keep rains from diluting the water too much. Or not..just toss in more salt. I imagine anybody doing this would be attentive..part of the fun. Just those interesting marine algae would be fun to see..shiny greens, browns and reds.
