hi,

i might be getting a jewel 125 off ebay (if i can get it at a reasonable price!)

what are these tanks like? does anyone know how many gallons this tank is?

pros and cons of this tank?

thanks,

Laura

p/s Also IF i get this tank, then i will be selling the one i have at the moment (which is slightly over-stocked at the moment, hence why i want a bigger tank) anyway, is there an option on here to sell my tank or does anyone what to buy it? its a aquaone 380... 1 yr old, prefect cond..

had enough of aquaone or just prefers the juwel 125?
i think it holds 125L.
i have no juwel fish tank so no comments..

i have a Juwel Rekord 60 and rio180. Juwels are perfect for planted tanks but the filter is a little slow for bigger fish (not relevant in a planted tank)

it holds 125L

gf225 (planted forum moderator) has a rio125 see his journal Here

it's massive but well worth skipping through it to get ideas.

hope that helps

Is the 125 the Rio or the Rekord. Personally i prefer the hoods on the RIO range. Thats part of the reason why i went for the rio 180. The Rekord hoods to not provide accessibility as well as the Rio Range.

At the time I also went for the Juwel tank as the internal filter came with it, and being fixed it was less fiddly than a fluval internal filter. I have since added an external filter to the tank, as i was loosing faith in the juwel internal filter. It was a pain to have to remove the powerhead to get to the sponges. The filter needs regular weekly maintenance, and a good clear out in order to keep on top of any waste build up. If you dont, you may find the water chemistry goes a bit astray and you lose fish.. not a good idea ;) .. I changed to an eheim external for ease of maintenance, and scince then my water chemistry has been perfect, with no odd changes in the ammonia and nitrite levels from 0.

I also got the stand, which i am happy with too. Its reasonable value for money. So my main comment would be, what did you pay? the Juwel tanks arent a bad package, but keep on top of the filter maintenance.

EDIT: BTW its 33 US Gallons

Cheers

well i havent brought it yet, but i was browsing ebay and found one with no bids and its local. Im not sure if its a rekord or rio (didn't even know there where two types! )

it comes with a beech stand and it looks quite nice. As i mentioned before, i have a aquaone 380 and its a wonderful tank, i love the filter system and the curved glass, but it is a tad over-stocked and i would love a bigger tank, hence why im looking into getting another tank. The reason im selling my aquaone is to be able to afford a bigger tank!!

It looks like the 120 is a rekord, but the one you are looking at is the 125, which should be the RIO range.. dont quote me on this though..

However, if it is, then i would say that is a good thing in my books.. The rio has a centre piece that hold the lights, then two flaps, one at the front and one at the back. These make it easy to access the tank. If both flaps are open, you can then slide it back and forth to make access easier still..

Just my 2p anyway ;)

ok, well thanks for your help and comments. At the moment the bid has no bids and is at a £25.00 start.... im keeping my eye on it though!! ill let you all know if i win it or not! then you can all help me stock it. hehe!! :D

Sounds good, 125 would be a Rio. I managed to get a Rio 180 from ebay for £66 and am in the process of building a cabinet for it to go on. They are great tanks, the only criticism being that the inbuilt filter is adequate but an Eheim would be a good upgrade.

do you think this tank (the rio jewel 125) would be a suitable size to turn into a malawi chiclid tank?? thats my plans for this new tank..... what does everyone think>?

Im not expert on cichlids/malawis, but it's my understanding that the standard Juwel filtration would not be adequate for that kind of tank... In that case i would definately recommend a filter upgrade..

Others may disagree though, so hold on for some other comments..
