I have two full grown jack dempseys. I am curious about tank mates. I have read that catfish go well with them. Any suggestions?

Pictus Catfish, Hoplo catfish, Synodontis. Pretty much whichever catfish you ant really. Within reason that can fit in with your tanks stats. I really want to try Brichardi (spelling?) catfish with my Jacks, they are magnificent.

You arent just limited with catfish. It all depends on your Jacks personality, i've had a few Jacks to date, and i've kept my male 8" with rummynose tetras no problems. He did grow up with them i'll add and has always been fine. The only thing i've found i couldnt keep with my Jacks were shrimp. They saw them as food.

What size tank are you keeping your two Jacks in and how big are they themselves? You say fully grown. That could be anywhere between 6-10" depending on their sex.

They are sitting in a 55gal tank. The one is 6.5" and the other is only like 5" but neither of them have grown in like 6 months. I figure that they are done growing because they are not growing any more. I figured any kind of catfish but wasn't sure. They won't let tetras in the tank though. They eat anything that they see pretty much. I have my Dojo Loach in there with them right now and the Dojo rules the tank but he is going to get moved here soon into a 46 gal bow front tank. I am going to start an Angel tank for my Girlfriend.
Thanks for the conformation on the catfish.

No worries. I wouldnt say they have stopped growing at 5". My female is just over 6" and she is pretty much done, but still growing very slowly. My male has been 8" for about 6 months now also, and i'm sure he's done. Possibly growing very slowly still, but nothing noticeable.

Keep them fed on pellets, veg and frozen/live bloodworm/daphnia ect and they'll be nice healthy Jacks :) They are beautifull fish to keep and well worth it. Often overlooked by alot of people in my eyes. Due to juvis looking quite ugly alot of the time. I highly recommend feeder shrimp, very entertaining and worthwhile. Although it might promote a little agression toward small fish in future.

Important thing with Jacks, its quality not quantity with food ;)

My Jacks will eat any type of food I drop in there. I give them feeder shrimp and feeder fish all the time. It is very fun to watch. They get a very wide variety too. They get pellets, dried blood worms and flakes. They are very pretty. I noticed that they change colors too. When they are by themselves and nothing around they are a darker color than if they were near another fish. I have Tinfoil barbs that I got just before my JDs and they don't seem to like them to much but they are big enough that they don't mess with them. I'm giving them to a friend though. He needs some good sized fish for his tank and I want to get some smaller fish to go in with the JDs that they won't eat that's why I was asking about the catfish.
