I got hold of a few strands of Java Moss and decided I would try and create a small wall section at the end of the tank by creating grids one by one.

I don't have much moss so it will be a long diary! I have heard it grows fast though?

Anyway, here we go!

Day 1

I used:
2X Non ferous metal grid
2X Green netting
Suction cups off of my old filters
50 odd strands of Java Moss from Ebay

Whole thing must have easily fell within a few pounds.

That looks like it will take quite a long time looking at the initial amount of moss compared to the grid. As you said though, it does grow rather quickly so we should see some progress soon!

Are you dosing and are you supplementing CO2?

No, I have just put it in my cycling tank to help with Nitrites after reading This, very interesting hey!

Thanks

Rob

I dislike that article...

The person was water testing it and intentionally knew the "Jar" she was keeping her Betta in was toxic for the fish. Just for a small experiment that most people already know plants take up nutrients. "purple in color - high nitrite levels - BAD for fish)." she intentionally leaves it in there...

Is this tank really thin? or is your moss wall on the front? I feel stupid but the pics don't look right to me lol.

I would extend the moss wall to cover the whole wall if it was me, not sure how big the tank is so that might be a bit much. Maybe do a side wall?

This is just a test at the moment, as there isnt too much space on wall mounted tanks i dont think i can afford the space right now

I've only just noticed how strange the photos actually look...

Im watching this with interest, as I would like to do one of these. I am growing the moss on a coconut shell at the moment, but once I get any kind of quantity I might have a go.

The best example of a moss wall I've seen recently is this My link go down a bit to see it be put in.

 The moss in the second link is sexual!

Had some light problems so I have bought -Betta 36" - 30w - T8 fishred light aquarium light tube - Colour Temp 20000K- Similar to This

Not sure how this will affect my moss!

Also had a problem of using "No planaria" which covered my moss in white palm extract which seems to have caused some issues!

I can't tell, but it looks like there has been a tiny bit of growth?

17 days in

To sum it up, i got bored waiting! I ended up buying 6" x 6" more moss!

I have put half of it in the wall and the rest over stones etc.

My biggest worry is that i thought my moss was ok until i saw it against the new stuff :(
The new stuff looks 100x greener than my older stuff, bit of a worry and dont know how i can fix this!
Also the stuff in the wall looked brown and dying!

This image shows the new stuff on top with the old below

I think perhaps I have too much light but I am not too sure what to add to compensate for this
