I'm getting some Java Moss and I wondered if I need to know anything about growing it.  I have corys (they should spawn in the next couple days in the tank I'm putting the moss in) and soon RCS (they are coming with the moss).  My tank is sanded, not gravel.  I don't want it to get out of control, as I like my tanks tidy.  I'm probably going to tie it to a 8 inch tall rock I have and try to keep it off my fake plants.  Should I even bother?

tie it to a rock or it will grow everywhere, imo java moss is one of the most untidy moss's out there,  as for growing it, iv heard storys of people putting it in a pint glass or leaving it on a bit of damp wood in storage for 3 months, and it still grew from that, it even can survive in brackish water.

it wont attach itself quickly underwater, but if you leave it to get out of control then it might. (talking from my own experiences with moss's)

+1 with what mike says if you don't want it to get out of control and still look neat let it grow until your happy with it and then when your not happy trim it just cut it to shape and what not that way you can control it plus you can sell on or give away the cuttings you get if they are decent size portion from what ive been loocking at a small 5cm x 5cm will sell for around £2 on ebay :p
