i have a 4 inch female jack dempsey and was wondering what tank mates would be best ?????

All depends on tank size (plus temperament of JD - some fish just don't like other fish :p)

ive got a female the same size. shes with two blood parrots and some nocternal bottom dwelling fish. i think being a female is a good thing because ...actualy as i type shes trying to destroy my heater...i take that back lol. as for the FISH in my tank, she leaves them alone. i wouldnt get anything too agressive like an oscar...they can hold their own pretty good on fish their size. consider the fact that shes alone in her tank right and that means its her territory. when a new fish comes in shes going to be boss and her agression (if she has any) will show. firemouths, bps, green terrors...medium cichlids

what size is your tank?

My adult male JD is with two teen sev's (~5"), 7 giant danios (~2"), 6 silver dollars(~6" disks), and a common plec. This is in a 125G

As mentioned above, the size of your tank is important to the tank mates, as obv if your tank is 500G, the possibilities are huge, but if you have a 55G (which is pretty close to the min for an adult JD) then I would not recommend any other cichlids. Even some of the common schoolers like SD's would grow too big for a 55G... though species like giant danios will work good in a tank such as that.

Ox :good:

my female is about 3.5" and she is with my thread fin acara, salvini, 2 bristlenose plecs and a convict she is the 2nd biggest in the tank with the thread fin being 4" and there is no aggression what so ever but i will wait till they get bigger but if they have grown together then i dont see why there will be any aggression basically any fish that can stick up for itself and grows larger than 5" is okay such things as: green terrors, convicts, firemouth, blue acara those type of cichlids are fine

i have a jd and a electric blue jd in with various fish 'all are adults 7" and above - heartshaped flowerhorn, green terror, 4 silver dollars, 12" silver shark, 24" fire eel, many other cichlids, eels and corys - all of which get on fine, although i have a near 1000ltr tank, which makes a difference
