Hi all. New to all this. Is this normal. The orange platt was in a cold water tank and wasnā€™t doing well for a long while, not socialising with others, even being aggressive and hiding all th time.. Moved it into this tank to see if the temperature change to 27 degrees helped. For the last 2 days he appears to be schooling with the tiger barbs and they seem to have accepted him.. if itā€™s a him by the way. Has anyone seen this before?

That is actually really cool that they accepted him! Thatā€™s quit abnormal. I have never seen it personally with these 2 species, but I didnā€™t once have a single zebra danio in with a group of neon tetras. It was working for a bit, but then they got territorial over food and I had to remove the ZD. :(

I say if they arenā€™t showing any aggression, go for it! (Note: Playful chasing is normal)

Yea I couldnā€™t find anything about this being normal.. the orange one is chasing them around and following them. It even seems to really like them as far as I can tell, searching for them etc. Was it because he was on his own for a while in that big tank and , was it lonely ? Not sure how intelligent they are for these decisions.

Most tetras are schooling fish and get along with other fish, I have several shoals of different tetra and see them at times swimming together in groups. I have not seen this but it does not surprise me.

My bolivian ram schools right along with my 8 tiger barbs and they don't seem to mind. It's cool to watch.

Platys arent a shoaling species. They hang out in harems with a male having a group of females, fish stay in large numbers for safety. Some fish like barbs will shoal but im guessing the platy is hanging around the barbs for safety and doesnt have a place in the hierarchy of the group of barbs.
I have a small hitch hiker platy in with my neons and she tries to swim with the neons from time to time but she by no means is part of the shoal.

I agree, they may allow him to school with them but not shoal, all my tetras have their own shoal even though they school together at times. He is like that little kid the tags along following the group of big kids, The big kids let him as long as he is not a pain and when they want to be cool they completely ignore him ;)

Hi all. Another one has just died. Fine all day, then separated from the group, floating at the top and then a little later spiral spazzing out. All others seem fine. No marks on the dead one, this was the biggest of the group. Ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate 5-10. PH 5-5.5. 27.5 degrees c tonight. Any help appreciated. Someone suggested they were very thin. What would cause them to be thin? Poor care are the shop? Thanks in advance.

Worms could cause them to lose weight.

Ok, I take it worms spread to each one? How to know if thatā€™s definitely it? How do you treat etc? Iv ordered 10 more from another shop to make the group bigger a suggested but obviously not good idea to add more as it stands???
