Hi,
Am i in trouble?
I bought a fish this afternoon and it was sold to me has being a red honey gourami. Once i got him in my community tank, i started to look at him closer and i'm worried he's not a honey gourami at all. Here's a picture of him. He's about 1.75 inches long.

If it's a thick lipped gourami, should i be worried about having him in my community tank. My 60 gallon tank has All kinds of gouramies, a dozen neons and a otocynclus.

He's kind of cute but i'm pretty sure the LFS would take him back if i wanted to return him. Should i???

I can't see the picture but thick-lipped gouramies are peaceful fish so it should be fine (thugh, of course, that depends on the other species you already have and the tank's size).

Does your fish look like the one in the middle here? http://jjphoto.dk/fish_archive/aquarium/tr...er_labiosus.htm These are the fish most often confused for honeys - and it's easy to see why!
Or more like the left honey here? http://jjphoto.dk/fish_archive/aquarium/tr...aster_chuna.htm

Probably the most obvious difference is the considerably more pointed dorsal on the thick-lipped. Of course, if you just let your fish grow out, you'll know what it is from its size ;)

It looks a lot like the picture of the thick lipped gourami you showed me.

Doesn't look like a honey to me, looks more like a thick lipped to be honest!! Or perhaps even a dwarf?

Looks fairly like a honey to me, but it could be a orange thick lip.
How many other gouramies is it going with and what sp. are they?

Oh i've got a tank full of gouramies (60 gallon). LOL I've got Pearl gouramies, Dwarfs and honeys. the rest is neons and a litle otocyclus.
They all seem to get along pretty well.

Humm one vote for the thick lip and one for a honey.... Anybody else?

The pic isn't showing up for me in the post but I can see the link. I'm not too sure actually - I'm going with honey though because his fins are very long and he looks too mature for a 1.75" thick-lipped. Also, look at these pics here: http://fishbase.org/Photos/ThumbnailsSummary.php?ID=11201 He certainly looks like the fish there. Having said that, can you get another pic just in case this particular one is misleading? It doesn't matter though really - it'll be fine with your other gouramies either way and you'll know what species it is for sure, if it exceeds 2" ;)

Humm.... It's really hard to tell. It looks a lot like the Red honey in the picture but it seems to have a big mouth. LOL He's cute anyway. Here another link to a picture of him. He's really shy and hard to take a picture of. I don't understand why you can't see the pictures. I can. Thanks for the help.

He looks like a Red Robin Gourami to me i have two of them they are very peacfull andwont gro much bigger than 2 inches.

I've seen those sold as honey sunset gouramis. They are peaceful and curious; I haven't seen them bigger than 2.5" myself.

2.5" is large for a honey (are you including the tail?).

'Red robins' are a honey morph though the name is applied quite indiscriminantly.

yeh ur pic is a red honey gourami i have one and i have 2 thick lipped gouramis

I would say the body is to thick for a honey gourami.http://www.wetwebmedia.com/Anabantoids/Honey_GouramiAQ.jpg
In a shop i went to about 3 weeks ago they got a new stock in of these, not one looked like that in body shape.

The fish you linked to is not a honey gourami (Colisa chuna/sota) - it is a dwarf (Colisa lalia).

Hi again,
Well i have dwarf gouramis aso but they don't have that body shape. They are rounder. He's kind of long with a pointy dorsal fin which the dwarfs don't have. Hummm.....
