While trying to work out what anubias I'd like, I've noticed these different listings:

Anubias nana
Anubias barteri var nana

And:

Anubias coffeefolia
Anubias barteri var coffeefolia

Are these in fact the same plants but listed in different ways, or are they actually different plants? If they are different why are their names so similar?

I don't know about A. coffeefolia, but I can answer the first part; 'nana' is just a dwarf version of A.barteri, so it should properly be called Anubias barteri var nana; I guess that's just too long for most people :rolleyes:

I have both of the first ones (Is that good english or what?! :p )

The nana is a smaller varitey which should be used towards the front of the tank. The Barteri can be used mid tank. Never heard of the last two though, but i am a plant newbie!

Yes I have barteri and nana in my tank (although not petite, would love done of that too), really like the coffeefolia but am wondering if they are the same plant or different. There is usually a price difference...if they are the same then that's silly, but if they are different then fair enough, in which case I assume the more expensive is rarer or something? :unsure:

I meant are A. barteri var coffeefolia and A. coffeefolia the same? I'm guessing they must be and it's like fluttermoth said: people are just lazy and can't be bothered to write out the full name? I can't remember where I saw them now either so can't find the examples :unsure: :shout:

I see what you are syaing r.e. dwarf but that would imply the smallest.

Along the right lines though. Barteri can have leaves circa 2" across, Barteri v Nana 1" and then the real dwarf is Barteri v Nan Petite (or v pygmy or v dwarf for some people) which has leaves circa half an inch or smaller. I had all 3 types in 'Once upon a time at the riverbank.'

Coffee = brown
Folia = leaf

Never had it but don't think that's right. All pics I've seen are green but it does have big leaves so maybe it is implying they are coffee cup size. lol

:lol: I didn't think it would be, but it was worth a go. :rofl:

Well, the new foliage on the coffeefolia is a lovely tan colour and turns green as the leaf matures, so you never know.... ;)
