Hi all, I have received my upgrade of the new 180 liter juwel aquarium yesterday, I have all the plants/substrate and de-chlorinated water in it and have been running it for around 16 hours now for it to get up to the exact same temp as my old setup (which the fish are currently in), Can i now add the old filter media to the new filter and transfer all the fish directly over?

i would run a chemical test for no2, no3, and ammonia before you do anything personally

Yeh good idea, I assume all these should be 0 as there is no fish in the tank? If this is the case can i then add the fish?

I don't know what substrate you have in your old tank or how many fish, but if your new tank is bigger and you're not adding any more fish than are in your old tank then I'd say a straight swap is fine.
Get something like Tetra SafeStart to boost the bacteria once swapped over and if you have gravel in your old tank I'd put that in the new tank too along with any decor and plants you can. If you have new substrate in the new tank then put the old gravel in bags made from tights and place them in the tank to help seed the new substrate.
Is this a tank upgrade where you're shutting the old tank down?

Yeh i will be shutting the old tank down, Not transferring anything from the old tank apart from the mature media and the fish, So if i get some safestart, check the chemicals in the new tank then i can transfer media and fish? i won't be adding anymore fish until for about 4 weeks oh and i am using a new Sand substrate.

Also at the moment the new tank seems to be slightly cloudy, Is this o.k. or should i wait until it clears?

I'd let the tank clear before adding everything.

As you're shutting down completely then you can bag up the gravel to help seed the new tank as well as add the Tetra SafeStart. I use it when doing similar and it's good stuff.

In the new tank you'll get (hopefully) readings of 0 for ammonia and nitrite as you haven't got any fish in - unless you have those readings in your tap water. Anything you can use from the old tank to help settle the new tank will be good :)
You're going about things in the right way :D
