I
Is in a 5 gallon Fluval Chi with sand substrate and java fern, Anubias and red sword
Bought at a local pet store.
I thought that the rear fin looked kind of damaged but I wasn’t sure.
Ive been in the hobby for 10 years and have only now started out with betas
Thanks!

Looks sort of ripped...

Preform daily water changes (40% or more), until things improve.

What kind of filter do you have? Any sharp plants/decor in the tank?

He looks like a crowntail betta which has the rays in the fins separate from each other. How long have you had him?

If you do suspect the fins are damaged, as PheonixKingZ says, daily water changes and see if there is any improvement.

I got him yesterday, was kind of skeptical but got him cause my mom thought he was pretty, its running on the stock chi filter, and i made sure to get plants that weren’t really hard or sharp or anything, only other thing in the tank is a hide
The only thing i was kind of worried about since i knew it was kind of hard to tell with the separate strands was that it looked like the top of the back fin was gone

I don’t know if you guys can see it cause its hard to get a good pic but like I’m not sure if the rear tail should be bigger, i thought it might be
