Hi

My Angelfish has recently been suffering with Pop Eye, that I can't seem to get rid of. I had been treating the tank with Myxazin but it hasn't done anything. After the Myxazin didn't seem to be helping, I have tried Melafix, which for a time seemed to make things look slightly better, but still nothing major.

My Angel now looks like the pictures below, and I am concerned that it may be either blind, or going blind.

Sorry the photo's aren't fantastic, but its the best I could get. I have tested the levels and everything is fine Ammo: 0, Nitrate: 0, Nitrate: 0 (I did think it was weird that my Nitrate was a 0 where as it is normally at 5, but was told this is due to me having a heavily planted tank). The tank went through a mini cycle not long ago, which is what caused the pop eye - whilst the tank was high in ammonia and nitrite until it sorted itself out again.

I also had a Bolivian Ram suffering with huuuge bulging eyes, but it affected it that much it has sadly now passed away. I really don't want this to happen to my Angel.

The fish is still eating fine, though it is finding it difficult to see the food and instead of going down to the sand to grab bits, it relies on it floating on the surface. I don't know if this is because it is going blind, or if its because of this patch at the front of its eye. When you look at the fish front on, you can only see the right eye's pupil.

Any help appreciated, thanks.

My first though is eye flukes, however those marks around the pectoral fin are a concern, are there any white clumps like that on the fish anywhere? this would be lymphocystis if there are, but I have never seen or heard of that attacking the eye - although there is no reason why it would.

I would try an anti fluke medication, Sterazin maybe, see if there is any improvement. If there is not then it is lymphocystis which is a virus with no cure but usually runs its course within around 6 weeks, some fish do survive this so long as it does not get into the mouth or gills.

Sorry not much help :(

There aren't any white clumps anywhere else, other than that fin - the other fin seems OK.

There are however marks, kind of almost like holes? Like white shimmery marks that looks like some of the scales have been damaged. These do seem to be better since the water conditions have improved though and I do believe the Melafix helped slightly.

OK - I'll research Sterazin :) Thank you.

Are you referring to the sensory pit holes on the head? these are normal, however if they have a white sheen around them this is the start of hole in the head. In the photo they look normal to me.

No, though I was concerned about those also so thank you!

On other parts of the body, mainly the fins, there seems to be almost holes. In fact where the anal fin attaches to the body, there is a clear hole. I researched the symptoms and came to the conclusion it was a bacterial infection due to the recent bad water quality, but would have expected this to clear by now, or at least show signs of clearing which it isn't? I'll try and find a pic for you.

Thanks.
