I had a beautiful batch of it, which i've been keeping in a low-tech set up. All the other plants in the tank are doing great. however, the frogbit has slowly but surely died off, and seems to always be covered in trumpet and ramshorn snails.

I'm confused though, it started out so well and was sending out "runners", creating new batches for the first few weeks i had it. Now i'm reduced to one last leaf and a few sad looking roots :-(

Is it the snails?

No, ramshorns and trumpets don't do this.
Frogbit tends to die off after be introduced to a tank if the nutrient levels aren't up to scratch. Co2 shouldn't be a problem because it can get that from the atmosphere.

Agreed with Radar, ramshorn and trumpet snails won't devour living plants, they will however eat dying plants, so it looks as if they are the cause of the problem when they are not. Thats why your dying frogbit is covered in snails, the snails aren't the cause, something else is.

Thanks all. Will have to look further to find the root of the problem (excuse the pun). Any thoughts?

I dose daily with macro fert drops and recommended dosing of seachem flourish, and have been for a couple of months now. My plants have come along beautifully since starting those. Can't quite understand why the frogbit hasn't thrived then, i thought it was quite a hardy plant?

So shall I show you pictures of Ramhorn snails eating lots of holes in my Frogbit...?
