I am into day 12 of a fishless cycle. On day 2 I had a bacteria bloom but that had cleared by day 6. I think I put to much amonia in to start with because amonia level was off the scale. Did 50% water change and amonia was still off the scale. Day 10 amonia still off the scale but nitrite 0.25, day 11 amonia off the scale, nitrite 0.50. Today fully planted the aquarium, amonia still off the scale but nitrite up to 5.0+, temp 28.c, ph 8+. Does this sound as all going well.
Thanx
Allan

yep alls going well, the amonia is dropping and the nitrite is going up do you have a nitrate reading??

and keep an eye on your ph if it starts to fall too much you cycle maty "stall" and you will need to do a partial water chaqnge

Do you have a nitrate reading yet? That would tell you if any nitrite is being processed (probably too early though). You may want to consider doing another water change to get the ammonia down so you can get a discernable reading. SOmetimes It's hard to tell what is happening if is off the chart. With nitrite present, a 50% water change and ammonia still off the chart, I'm curious as to how much you added to begin with. Sounds as if you may have had it in the 20ppm or higher range.

It looks as though the ammonia is being process now. The fact that you have nitrate would possibly indicate that some nitrite has been processed but the nitrate could be from your tap water. Have you tested you tap water?
