Hi all,

I've been replying to a number of thread about my sucking loach. Problem is according to some sites he's a chinese algae eater. As far as i know, chinese algae eaters have a pointed nose with wiskers. WHICH IS WHICH?!?!

Here is my loach:

he looks identical to my sucking loach!!! i agree i think he's an algae eater, does he try to suck off your fishies in your communtiy tank? what do you feed yours on?

Yeah he 'sucks' like a pleco. He'll eat anything he can find (either algae wafers or catfish pellets). But he does have difficulty trying to eat them so he presses food against the glass and sucks away at it.

He only has a go at my aratus (those two dont get on). I suppose if the aratus couldnt get away he would be sucking at it.

So is he a loach (what i think he is) or a chinese algae eater?

Thats a bit personal isnt it  :X

Try a search for Gyrinocheilus aymonieri (sucking Loach/Chinese algae eater).

I've always known them to be the same fish.

It's funny why they call them Chinese when they are actually from Thailand.
