Hm, well I am new to the forum, my name is Abdiel I am 21 and live in Miami, FL and have been actively looking for a great place to be able to talk, and share our ideas and stories dealing with our aquatic friends, as well as it doesn't hurt to meet new people that share our same passion, I look forward to meeting you all and being a part of this forum!

We have a MOD from near you that I am trying to convince to join her local fish club. Fish clubs can be found in our own forum listing here. There is nothing quite like a fish club when it comes to finding local resources for the hobby or even finding good buys on new fish or equipment. My own club gets a discount card for our local fish shop, the good one in town. We also get the chance to attend our club's auctions where people like me offer their surplus fish for whatever the auction participants are willing to offer. In my own case, I end up selling fish at prices that the LFS would not believe and I also buy fish and equipment for very attractive prices. This last weekend, I picked up a 20 gallon tank, with no hood or anything, for $3. I am sorry to say that whoever offered that tank probably hoped for more, but I could not pass it up at that price even though I already 5 have tanks that are dry and not set up.
I usually offer my surplus fish at the auctions and have no hope of receiving wholesale prices for my fish. I console myself by recognizing that most bidders are experienced fish keepers and my fish are going to good homes. That is better than I could expect giving them to local stores. If you are a member of your local club, you can expect to also hear about nearby fish auctions by other clubs. For me, that means that I will hear about auctions within about 150 miles. All clubs near me allow both members and non-members to participate in the auctions so you can even benefit from the auction activity near you without joining that club.
