Hello everyone, I am new to this forum and I hope to get to know everyone quite well. :fun: I have recently bought two fish tanks(Well, bought one and got the other for my birthday.) and they are 3gallons, and 5gallons big. Here are my plans for my tanks, please tell me if there is a problem with two species not being able to go together.

3Gallon Tank
Some Guppies, would like to know how many would be good(My local pet store is having a sale on them, 2 for 4.99 so an even number would be good.)

5Gallon Tank
Betta(Optional, but would like to have one)
Some Platties
Neon Tetras
Angelfish(Optional)

If there are any fish that should not be placed in the same tank, please advise me of this. Thank you.

And so I don't forget, when I get the fish and they are still in the bag, am I supposed to put the bag with the fish in it, into the tank for a certain period of time? The answer to that would be very appreciated!

For the 3gal there are no fish I would suggest if you're new to fishkeeping. But you could keep a few nerite snails and/or shrimp.
Or possibly even an African Dwarf Frog.
A few important questions though, does it have a heater? Does it have a filter?

For the 5gal (presuming it will be heated and filtered)
A single male betta
and possibly some pygmy cories, or shrimp, or a snail or two, or possibly even a few endlers but it really depends on the bettas tempremant.

It is not suitable for neon tetras due to their activity level and need to be in groups. Aswell as that they're quite sensitive to a lapse in water quality which is more likely with a small tank.
It's also DEFINITELY not suitable for an angel fish. They grow up to 15cm tall and shouldn't be put in a tank any less that 20gal and it must have a height of 45cm minimum. When put in tanks that are too small they become deformed. Often ending up being flat underneath as opposed to pointed.

Oh and just another note, a fully grown adult angelfish can and will often eat neon tetras. If well fed and grow up together it's less likely, but still personally not something I would feel comfortable doing. Just thought you might like to know cause if you ever got a larger tank that was suitable for an angel then you should still avoid putting angels with neons.

Welcome to the forum Parrotlover.
You could easily keep that single betta in the 3 gallon and then look at a stocking of a small number of small fish in the 5 gallon. A 5 gallon tank might hold a trio of platies and nothing much more so you either need to look at smaller fish or scale back your assortment to a small enough number. My smallest tanks are 10 gallons. In one I keep Heterandria formosa, in another I keep golden teddies, in another I have some guppies, in yet another there are some juvenile wild type swordtails called Xiphophorus montezumae. Even the 10 gallon will soon be too small for those 4 swordtails. A 5 gallon is something that I do not keep set up. It is a tank I carry with me if I am going to a fish show, yep just like dog shows, and I can put a single fish or a pair in it. That tank is for my larger fish and the 2 1/2 gallon is for smaller fish for a day or two at a show.

Okay, thank you.
Both tanks have a filter and a heater each.
Angelfish are definately out, I didn't know they got that big.
No frogs/turtles/shrimp/snails. (My mom doesn't want any of them in the tanks)
For the 5 Gallon tank, I heard that Platty's would be ok to put in with a betta, but I didn't know how big the tank would have to be.
I saw a really beautifully coloured betta at the pet store the other day, he was striped, blue, than white, than blue. It was only the three stripes, but it looked really neat! He was sold though :( . I will look at the pet store again monday to see what they have and will ask if any of them would be okay to put in either of my tanks.

Thanks
