Hi

Last night we recieved an adult female Black Molly from my MIL, who's tank failed and she lost all fish but 1 ( the Molly ) this poor fish was living in a large jar and we'd like to indroduce her into our tank if possible. We have a 10 gallon tank which contains 2 adult Mollies, a 6 month old, and 8 fry (varying sizes )

Is there anything we can do to make sure this fish is 'clean' and won't make our tank crash and burn. ( Visually she seems healthy ) but we have only introduced store stock into the tank up to now so want to make sure we don't mess up and kill everybody in the process.

Thanks for the help

what happened to your friends tank????Was it a desise? You will have to quarentine the fish in a tank on its own for 2-3weeks.Then you will be able to see if it has any desises

If your friend just setup up a tank and put a heap of fish in straight away, that'll be why they died. You need to cycle a tank for the fish to survive. Unfortunatly though you tank already has a fair amount of mollys, its only realy recommended you have 2 of same gender in a 10gal as they are very active fish and need space to sort out their pecking orders so your tank is already pretty full. Best thing for the molly is to rehome it to a local fish store unless you upgrade your existing tank to a larger one.

Thanks for the info, it was my Mother-In-Law's tank and I don't think she was taking very good care of it, I think the water quality must have been really bad. The Molly and a really big algae eater survived 1 or 2 others died. Not sure what I'll do, we don't really have room for another tank. The Molly has been in the 1 gallon jar for over 2 weeks now at my MIL's, and has lived thru' that, maybe I'll just take a chance and put her in, she is definitely a survivor !!
