ive just had a little idea dunno if it would work but i have a systemised 4.5 ukg tank and was just looking at the filter

could you not just put the filter into you water?!? becase doesn't the water cool slower then my filter?
saving the good bactiria?

or has my idea of chemical filtration wrong?

Hi Phoenixfish :)

In the event of a power failure there are two things to consider. One is keeping the temperature stable for the fish. If it's winter, wrapping them in blankets and plastic will help keep the heat in, or at least help it cool more slowly.

The second is keeping a supply of oxygen going into the water. This is important to both the fish and the bacteria in the filter. This means you should do whatever you have to do to keep tank water flowing over the filter media. If you have a hang on back filter, you can just pour some tank water into it every now and then. This will also move the surface of the water and add oxygen to the tank. If you have some other kind of filter then you will have to find some other way to circulate water through it.

Remember that if water is poured from a cup or other container, the higher it is when it is poured, the more oxygen it comes into contact with, and absorbs, on its way to the tank. :D
