Looking for some advice folks.

I have a 24", 40 (UK) litre tank (10-11 US Gallons) I think ? Got at Christmas time.

I do a water change every 2 days & feed on the other day.
I have my PH & Nitrate tested at my local store weekly & (they say) it's fine & has been for weeks.

I think I am over populating my tank though, as I keep losing fish (dying).

In the last 2 weeks I have lost 1 Guppy, 1 Black Mollie, 1 Siamese Fighter, 2 Angelfish, 1 White Mollie, 1 Rummy Nose tetra.

I have around 18 fish currently in the tank of varying breeds.

Strange thing is I still have most of my Neons & 1 Guppy from the beginning.

Sorry, but I am a real rookie :(

That far to many fish in that size tank you are overstocked.
What are your stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

you got a few single shoaling fish. angels, bettas and guppys and a good combo IMO. seems ypu LFS is giving you bad advice (what a surprise :/ )

i also would not keep rummy nose tetra with bettas, i used to have about 20 rummy nose and i added a betta and they ganged up on him so i had to take him out :/ i find that happens with most tetras tho. whadda you guys think?

A reasonable population for that tank would be, say, 5 neons and 5 male guppies; or 5 neons and 2-3 female guppies. Or 1 Siamese fighter and 5 small tetras (but beware of fin-nipping as Die Grinder said). You get the idea? It is a rude awakening for many new fishkeepers when they find out how few fish can live healthily in a 10 gallon tank. But then again, with a bit of careful planning, a 10 gallon tank can sustain a very enjoyable community.

Mollies and angels should never come near such a small tank. And arguably not rummy noses either, as they are very sensitive to water stats, which are more difficult to maintain in such a small tank.

So if you still have 18 fish, you are looking at either buying a larger tank (much larger!) or rehoming most of them.

i dont think u shud keep tetras on there own, espicially the rummy nose, they love 2 shoal :p

Thanks a lot folks. My mistake I actually have a 60 Litre (UK) tank.

Got my water etc tested today, once again they stated that my PH (6.8), Nitrate (0.00ppm Basic), & Nitrite (0.00ppm Basic) are all fine.

I think it's down to over population as I currently have

6 Neons
3 Guppy
2 Black Widow
2 Swordtail
2 Clown loach
2 Blue Gourami
1 Silver Tip

in there. :(

I think you are right. A reasonable population for a 60 ltr (15 US gallons) would be 6 neons and maybe 5 black widows (always assuming the black widows did not bully the neons). Clown loaches grow way too large for a 60 ltr, and swordtails are also too big and too active- they need a longer tank. The black widows and the silver tips both need proper schools of at least 6 individuals.
