My 10 gallon tank is cycling. Lately I've noticed nitrItes in the tank, but the ammonia has always been high. The last two days, there have been no nitrItes at all.... ammonia is still high (the pleco's fault, I'm sure). Does this mean the nitrIte cycle is done?? I'm really confused.

I would think that the nitrite cycle would only be complete if a) the ammonia cycle is complete and B) a nitrate level registers on the test strip.

Have you made any changes to the tank recently? Also, I see you have a 75 gallon tank waiting to be cycled. Perhaps you should move some of the fish from this tank into the other to ensure lower levels of stress and no unaccounted-for variables?

Sidenote: Isn't Namine the one in the chair? :p I just finished KH1, can't say I remember you being located in a chair by a window...

lol @ your sidenote

I know the pleco in there is prolly causing the ammonia to remain high, but the other day I put in one of those "ammonia clear" tablets that I *think* turns it into non-toxic ammonia. I assume it would still register on the test kit I have though.... The fish are a lot more active recently though...

as for moving them- There is presently 4ppm of chemical ammonia in that tank, I don't want to put these guys thru another cycle again.
