Was reversing out of a car park space yesterday and hit a car, wasn't just any car, was a porshe cayenne. My first time hitting a car ever in 15 years of driving. I'm really gutted. There's no visable damage to the Porsche as I caught my towbar under their bumper, but pulled it away as I pulled my car away. 2 or 3 clips were broke and it was still sitting in the same position. I had to report it to the police as I couldn't find the owner/driver of the car, yes, my initial instinct was to just get out of there asap but I thought better.

Having checked out a new rear bumper for that model I'm in shock. £1300 nearly.

Insurance had just come down last year after a few accidents my girlfriend had.

credit to you for being honest enough to own up to it . twice ive been the victim of hit and runs where ive come out to find my car with a big dent in it. if the bumper isnt physicly damaged you may well find you can just replace the clips ?

Not even a crack or mark on the bumper. I got a call from the police this morning with the reference number and the woman's details so I'll give her a bell later.

I've been hit a few times and people drove off so I know what it feels like, there is a part of me saying that if its good enough for others to drive off I should do the same but its really not a good way to live life I believe.

Police said the woman hadn't even noticed, I wouldn't have thought she would have as the bumper is in the position its supposed to be.

if thats the case im sure youl be able to just replace the clips .

I'll have to find out whether the clips can be replaced. Hope they can.

Thanks mark

Well done on your honesty. The country needs more people like you.

Sounds like you should just be able to sort it between you rather than get insurance involved.

Thanks mike, she phoned me the other day actually and said she took it to someone and they pushed the clips back in. Thanked me for my honesty and left it at that. What a relief!

Good stuff. Glad it worked out OK. I know what it is like to be on the other end, but in a total write-off situation - Couple of years back I had a serious RTA where someone side swiped me. She did a runner from hospital and it turned out the car had no insurance. Luckily the police managed to track her down, but it was worrying. I went a month not knowing what was going on with it and having visions of losing loads of money and no claims etc. As it turned out my insurance let me keep my no claims because, but I did lose my excess until the MIB covered it 12 months later and it cost me £1500 more than my insurance payout to buy an equivelant spec car because I had got a cheap deal on the one I had and they would only pay out what I paid for it (which is fair enough - its in the terms of the insurance).

All is well that ends well and you have a clear conciense now - Imagine if you had driven off - You would be forever wondering what happened! Good karma :D

Oh believe me mike, the thought did cross my mind for a split second. I couldn't do it though as its happened to me before. We actully still have a case on-going over two years now, a woman took the side out of the old car we had, we were waiting to get onto a roundabout and she thought she'd make two lanes out of one.
Police wasn't called as we were in a rush and details left, her husband phoned me then having a go at me, saying it was my fault, I don't know if he's trying to pull a fly one or she lied to him but they're denying it was them. The damage on our car doesn't back up their story though, nor the damage on their car. I've a really bad back from that accident and wasn't going to do anything about it until they done this, taking them to the cleaners now.

Had to buy a new car and leave the old one at my girlfriend mothers farm, had a major bump up in the insurance as the claims still pending, I've been off work since and had to pay for numerous accupuncture/specialist treatment. I've always said from now on, if someone hits me I'm not getting out of the car, the ambulance will come then and police will only come when the ambulance is called.

Not going through this rubbish again.

Its crap isnt it :(

I was lucky enough that my injuries were limited to a small cut and whiplash / lower back pain, which cleared up after 9 months. I occasionally get a bit of reocurrance - which sometimes lasts a week or so, but more or less got over it. I pretty much had the car I was driving to thank for my life - I only had it three weeks. If I had been in my old car I would have been dead. Fire bridage and paramedics couldnt believe that I had actually got out the car, so to come from that and be well again after 9 months I am very thankful.

These people just dont think about anyone but themselves. Unfortunately this is the world in which we live. I hope your issue gets sorted!
