Okay, I'm thinking about starting a saltwater tank with live coral. I've never done saltwater before (I have a ten-gallon tank w/ 3 guppies & a platy) but I really want to try coral. I have no idea what I'm doing, and would appreciate any help like what type/size tank/filter to get, and what kinds of corals nd fish. Thanks!

Whats the biggest size tank you could get?
And look on liveaquaria.co.uk look at the fish and corals you like, then let us know.
We will tell you what you need to the best of our knowledge.

Okay, I'll look the stuff over and then get back to you the earliest I can.

:hi: to the salty side Allie

My first suggestion would be take yourself to the journels section and the nano section and have a good read of people who have started salt tanks without having any salty experience :good: You could even take a look at my own one in the nano section!

Ensure you have a notepad and pen, jot down the important things and then come back and ask us loads of questions

The fun starts here................just treat the research as part of the process and then your journey starts here woohoo :hyper:

Don't forget to start your own journel in the journel section so we can help you along the way

you should start off with a bigger tank because in salt water, the smaller the tank is, the harder it is to maintain.. and i had to learn that the hard way.

another tip is to try raising the fish first, if you are successfull then go on to coral. look up some cheap and easy fish first too, something like green chromis's.

welcome to the salty side btw :shifty:

Okay, then any suggestions for easy-to-keep fish? And what size should I get?

i would recommend the 55 gallon rectangular aquarium thats 48" long by 12" wide and 20" tall.

some easy to care for fish is something that ranges in the damsels section, chromis's work well too.

i would like to remind you to research before you buy a fish. it is very important because you never know if its compatible in your aquarium or not. also once u first set-up restrain yourself from buying fish before your cycle.

sorry to repeat but like seffie said, take notes and more research! salt waterfish are extremely sensitive to water conditions :good: good luck!!!
