I am new here, so I don't know how everyone feels about this question. Maybe it's been asked many times before?

Anyway, here it is.

What's your personal favorite tropical fish to keep?

Just thought it would be interesting to see what different people enjoy. Mine's puffers by the way, Green Spotted (tetrodon nigrovidis) and figure 8 (biocellatus) not sure if I got the science names spelled correctly!

We have this thread every couple of weeks.
Love fish don't have a personal favourite really.

My favourite is my Common Pleco. They are not too shy and are quite playful. I like it when he hangs upside down cleaning the ornaments in the tank and the glass. He also floats almost on his back to eat the other fishes food (he is not hungry, he is nice and plump!). :)

I had a pleco a long time ago, but I was very young. When it got big, my mother flushed it down the toilet, it sucked it's self to the bottom and came back up, well it was very traumatizing for me and I am slightly disgusted by them now. But I have noticed that most people love them!

Why in the hell would she flush it down the toilet? :( That's just cruel.

Well, it got too big for our 10 gallon tank. She didn't know that fish shops will often buy them back so she decided that the best thing to do would be to flush it. when it wouldn't go down, she poured bleach into the bowl to try and get it to let go. I don't hold anything against her, she really didn't mean any harm to me by it, and I don't think that she was trying to be cruel, just one of those things that probably happens to quite a few new aquarists who don't have a lot of experience.

the thing that was so traumatizing was that it would go down the toilet, I thought it was gone, then and hour later I went into the restroom and lifted the lid and there was this 6 inch plecostemous. nearly scared me to death.

I like Platys. Inexpensive, peaceful, hardy, active, not too big and colorful. Everything you could wantt in a fish

I think that maybe I jumped in to brackish too quickly, there are many freshwater fish that I passed off as boring that so many people love! The reason why I ask is, I have a 10 gallon tank that's empty, I want to set it up but know that I am very limited in what can go in there, just wanted to hear everyones favorites so I could get some ideas.

i love tetras, some people say there boring and dont have personalitys, but after time they develop little antics and i love the way some of them shoal.
saying that i love guppys, kribs, rams, mollys, platys, danios, bala sharks, rtbs.........lol!

im not really into brackish, dont no alot about it..

Yeah, I had neons a few years back, can't think of anything that I find more beautifull than a tank with a large school of neons or cardinal tetras.

i like the way our black widows nip each other, but they only do it as a game and it never gets serious :)

i like the cardinals for their bigger size and more colour, but the neons are better for the smaller tank - more swimming room compared to body length and more in the tank, better shoals.

that and my own personal ones have esquisite colouring, friends and family are astounded at how good they look.

on top of that, my zebra danios, my betta (he's just a puppy dog in a fish tank really)

in fact for a ten gallon, get yourself a mix of zebra or leopard danios and neon tetras!! maybe add a few corys to the bottom to top it off?
