I'm changing my tank a bit, Here is my plan:
changing to sand out with black gravel
Taking the fake plants, pvc pipe, and any other bright decor out
Adding more plants (mostly tall ones in the back and floating plants)
Moving the one gourami in the 47-gallon tank to the 10-gallon once the other one (aka Skye) gets better... or... well... dies...
New fish!

How do I do all of this without stressing them out too much?

Get a spare tank/ large bucket/ large food safe tub. Add water from the main tank, a heater and the filter, floating plants if you have them. Add fish and cover.
Then work on the tank at leisure.

Photos of plants?

I moved my fish, heater, some of the water and some of the live plants to a 10 gallon tank while I worked on my 55 gallon tank. It did not seem to stress out the fish. I also kept them in the dark with a large towel so they slept most of the time.
