My tiger barbs seem to be dying one-by-one all with exactly the same symptoms and I'm not sure what it is. I asked on the emergency forum but no-one seemed to know so thought I'd ask here.

Basically they start with shredded pectoral fins (think that's right - the ones by the gills), then a few scales hang off, then they waste away even though they eat normally and in the last week they hide alone - away from th group until finally dying. All seems to take about a month.

I've treated with myxazin - a broad spectrum bactericide but still not real improvement.

Any ideas/tips?

Could it be an internal infection? Everything else seems fine.
Any advice appreciated.
Thanks
Andy

Hi New Boy

I'm no expert, but often fin rot can be a secondary symptom of an internal bacterial infection.

Have you tried medicating for this? I tried the Interpet med for this when my guppies were dying off one by one, with similar symptoms and the deaths ceased, thankfully.

Yep, used myxazin - broad spectrum bactericide...and one still looks like he's getting worse....should I use sterazin (internal parasites)?

Thanks

To be honest Myxazin isnt much cop for anything other than sterilising nets and live food, against actual diseases its next to useless.

I would treat with Interpet #9 which is the strongest anti bacterial med available without a prescription and use melafix at the same time to fight the secondary symptoms. Its does sound very much like bacterial fin/body rot and that is the best course of treatment i can recomend.
