I bought an aquatic plant yesterday and I must confess I have no idea what it is. Either did the man in the lfs. All I can tell you is that it's very like a conifer. Mid green colour all over. Sorry, I've no pics. Any ideas? I have it still in the pot, is that ok or is it better out of the pot? Thanks guys!

Selaginella willdenowii? Search for "umbrella fern aquarium" for photos, it's not aquatic.

I did a search and found one that looked a bit like my plant. Do you think it's not aquatic KittyKat? :shout: I'm very unimpressed with lfs employees.

The one which is a stick with confiner like leaves on the end is not aquatic, I'm afraid :look:

KittyKat, this plant is all green,no woody bits. The stems are the same colour as the leaves. The leaves are fern or conifer-like. I know it's useless without a pic.

Why don't you link to the pic which looked like it?

By the way, here's a good resource for aquatic plants: http://www.tropica.com/plants.aspx and a list of undemanding ones: http://www.tropica.com/plants/difficulty/easy.aspx

Does the plant collapse when taken out of water or remain upright? generally if it stays upright it is non aquatic if it collapses it is aquatic we will need pics to be sure though! your plant does sound like Borneo fern as nice as they look it won't survive indefinitely in your aquarium and will begin to rot so you could either keep it in a pot in damp soil as a nice house plant or take it back to swop it for a true aquatic :)

Ooh that's a handy tip Betta. This one stays upright. Thanks for that link KittyKat. I'll do my homework properly. :good:
