Tank size: 15 gal
pH: 7.8
ammonia: 0
nitrite: 0
nitrate: - don't know
kH: - don't know
gH: - don't know
tank temp: 29

Fish Symptoms (include full description including lesion, color, location, fish behavior):

Looks like ich - white dots like salt grains on tails and fins. A couple of tails look a bit ragged

Volume and Frequency of water changes: 50% every 1-2 weeks usually but it's a very new tank

Chemical Additives or Media in your tank: only decholirinator

Tank inhabitants: 6 male guppies

Recent additions to your tank (living or decoration): All fish are new - added just over a week ago. Did a fishless cycle first and ammonia and nitrite were zero and have remained zero since adding fish. I need reminders on how to best treat ich - I assume big water change and then what products are best (in the UK)?

thanks

Hi,

Some white spot treatment from your LFS should get rid of it pretty quickly, just remember to keep treating for a couple of days after symptoms disappear.

turn the temperature up in the tank as well for a day or so to kill the eggs/parasites!

Someone will probably be a bit more specific but these steps should help!

Yes, do a massive water change paying particular attention to the substrate.about 50%
Turn the temp up to 80 to speed up the White spot cycle.
You can either use salt depending on your stock or you can use esha exit which is suitable for most fish and snails.

I usually use esha exit due to my tank spieces so I'm not the best person to talk you through the salt treatment.
After you've finished treatment do another large water change and turn the heat down to normal temp.
Please turn the heat up slowly rather than wack it up as this can shock the fish. This is the same for turning it down.

Sadly 3 guppies died overnight

I got Waterlife Protozin (malachite green). I did a water change before adding. It says to test on days 1, 2, 3 and 6. Should I do any water changes in that time or should I avoid doing so, so as not to dilute the treatment?
