I want to use sand to aquascape my tank. Can I use the play sand you buy for kid's Sand Boxe's? Is it safe?
Which is best to use?

Thanks

Agros play sand is safe for tank use, I used to use it myself.

Argos, tescos, asda, all are fine with play sand.

What's best? That's always the million dollar question isn't it. Aquascaping is art, it's like asking whether watercolour is better than oil, they're different, they create different effects. Play sand is cheap but does tend to compact easily, which a lot of people don't like.

DONT FORGET TO WASH IT, whatever sand you use =]

pool sand and play sand seem to be the favorites of most of us. You're going to need to wash like crazy though as play sand has many fine dust particles

I use Argos playsand, it's been in there about 6 months and I need to replace it now, it's getting a bit dirty due to the algae, but it's like 2 quid so I don't mind for that price

so far the only complaint on play sand that I have is that when I stir it up to release air bubbles, the black dirty sand comes to the top making it look unsightly

for this reason I wish i would have spent the money and got black sand. I do plan on doing a bit of a rescape though hopefully soon. Id like to convert to black sand and use some nice colored gravel as well to get a split look going. Im quite fond of that look.
