One of my 240L tanks feels incomplete, for some reason I feel an urge to add a cichlid with a lot of personality. Unfortunately the tank is stocked full and has a few small fish that could eaten by anything large. The current stock includes:
5x Lake Kutubu Rainbowfish,
8/9x Guppies,
1x Cardinal (Last surviver),
2x Kyathit(?) Danios (Last survivers),
2x Gobies (The small wormy ones, about 2-3" long),
9x Bristlenose (2F + 1M = Babies),
Loads of assassin snails (3 = 100s).

If I were able to shift some fish/snails i.e 6x BNs, 70-90% assassins. What cichlid(s) could I add.

Thanks,
AmazonFTW

i would say the only fish that would be 100% safe are the rainbows and adult bristlenose. unless you go for dwarf cichlids but then i cant see them making that much of an impact on a tank of 240L

there are many 6 inch ish cichlids that would suit a tank of that size like salvinis, firemouths etc etc but it depends on what set up you want. aggressive or not, single species or a mixed cichlid com tank or just a single cichlid or maybe a pair.......

I was really thinking single or pair, non/semi-aggressive. Obviously this would mean single species.

Thanks for the fast reply,

As far as I can see. Just about any Apisto would fit in there.

Something gorgeous like Apistogramma Macmasteri.

Apistos don't fit my water parameters (pH 7.3, hard) and so are a no go I'm affraid. Rainbow cichlids aren't really my favourite I'm affraid and although they sound like good fish I would like something different. I was hoping for you to all suggest Sevs. Although I know the small fish would be food.

Any more suggestions?

Thanks,

a pair of rotkeils would be ok but the other fish would need to go except maybe the bristlenose.

Yeah, I'm affraid I can't just get rid of them. I know it's horrible to say but I don't think any of them except the BNs have got much time left. I do wish I'd done my other 240L with cichlids now. I bought my silvertips a week before I realised my love for sevs.

Whats stopping you from lowering the Ph?? The rainbowfish?

A nice lump of bogwood and some decaying leaves would drop the Ph.

I think a couple of Guianacara Geayis could fit easily or even 2 pairs:

A link to my wild caught from the river Oyapock:

Guianacara Geayis  Wow, they are amazing, although I bet they are in short supply  I'd buy them tomorrow if I could get them.

As for Keyholes, already got one so I want something different. Keyholes are so great, mine is the most laid back fish ever.

Any more suggestions, I'm sure you'll hit a good one that fits what I'm looking for (even I'm not sure what I'm looking for to be honest).

Thanks,

Sajica pair, Cutteri pair would enable you to keep some of ur present stock.

Re - PH - its much better to have stable conditions rather then tampering with it...For example, low PH suits American Cichlids and High PH African Cichlids..but most ppl keep what they want not what is suited...Most fish will be fine as long as the PH isnt too extreme but stable.
