i had 20 columbian tetras as dithers in my tank but after adding an oscar thoes numbers have slowly been declining now theres about 10!

I thought they would be ok as thet are about 1.5" and the oscar is only 6-7" i never see it really going for them it must happen when the lights are out

what other options could i have fo dithers as i think they add somthing nice to the tank

I was thinking of trying to get fully grown columbians or somthing similar but dont know where to get adults

any ideas

I go by the rule, if it can fit in it's mouth, don't get it. My apisto is 1.5-2" and tackled aa river shrimp, took him over and hour to munch it but he did and the shrimp was bigger than his mouth............

No tetra will survive long with an Oscar, You need to be aiming for dithers that are around 4-5" minimum

Rules I have learnt very quickly with oscars,
If its in the tank, its mine!
if it looks like food, its mine!
if it looks like food and isnt, I'm going to eat it anyway!
if its food for another fish, its mine!
if you have dropped it in the tank, its mine!
Fingers might be yours, if they are in my tank they are mine!

Its beginning to seem that way!

It's not worth it to keep smaller fish with big fish. I lost a 2" BN pleco and many many tetras in my 100 gal tank where I have my big boys. Even my 4" blue acara has killed tetras. It took me a while to get this sad truth. But don't waste your time or money on "Dithers". This 100 Gal tank is the only tank were fish go missing with no trace. I don't even have an oscar. My True parrot and blue acara are the killers in the tank.

so true

If you want to stay with the SA theme then its really the option of SDs, Three-spot Headstanders or possibly Leporinus if kept in a large group in a big tank
