So, I come home to see my roommate setting up a fish tank.. It's just a small 10g with a bubble\filter little heater and some marbles for the bottom. I figured he just bought a ton of neon tetras for it.. his fav fish but they get sucked into his other 10gal's filter.. I think I fixed that though.. But I go to the 3 little bags of fish. and omg. It's labled Red Devil, Oscar, and Jewel fish. Red devil.. I've heard that is the most evil fresh water fish ever. I'm guessing he'd kill the oscar or jewel fish when hes bigger. Right now he's an inch long at the most so he's young and pretty. But he's already extremely agressive. He's in a bag with the Jewel fish and beating the c rap out of it until I put him in a cup alone..
I dont know much about Jewel fish or oscars. I've always heard of oscars being agrresive too but nothing about Jewel fish. The oscar is already 3+ inches long, same with the Jewel fish. I'm guessing they're gonna get too big for a 10g tank. The Jewel fish is so pretty though, no one ever talks about them. I wanna find out a lot more about him. I'm thinking of keeping him, I'm upgrading to 55g in the summer and hopefully that'll be big enough. The pet store won't take them back, they only take back dead fish ... and require a water test.

I've never heardof Jewel fish either. However oscars will get huge. The minimum tank size for ONE oscar is 75 gallons. Where did he buy the fish from?

A few months ago, i decided I wanted a bird and bought a cockateil from Petco. The bird was sick, and died within a few days. I wanted to return everything, simply because it had been an impulse buy, and the fact that I just didn't want to steralize everything. I asked my dad to return it for me (he is one of those people who can wear a pair of jeans for a year and return them) and the manager said no. He then said he wanted to talk to the corprate manager, and demanded their number. He called them, and they authorized the phone call. Maybe somehting like that will work if it is a chain store?

It was a petland. They've said no to returning the fish, the opened chemicals he put a few drops into the tank. They'll only tank back the tank itself, the top, and heater. Flushing of the fish is what they said to do, I'm not doing that.

Would the Jewel be a Jewel cichlid (hemichromis bimaculatus)? West African cichlid, only grow to about 4 inches (I think), but said to be aggressive and unsuitable for a community tank. And you'd want a bigger tank for it. The Oscar can grow to 18 in, thats almost half a metre!
