I got a new pleco tonight. It is so cool looking! They told me what kind it was at the pet store but I hadn't heard of it before and now for the life of me I can't remember what they said. So I'm going to post three pictures of it below. Can anyone tell me what kind of pleco I have? Thanks in advance. :)

Yep. a big ol' monster Gibby. It'll get to a foot and a half in no time flat. I hope you've got a big tank!

Wow, they get that big? The people at the fish store said not more than 5 inches. Of course they said he was something else all together - I'll call and find out what that name was tomorrow. Then I can check and see if that is what he could possibly be or not. I wish I had internet access at the pet shop so I could look stuff up. It's hard because we don't have one close to where we live at all so it's hard to go back and forth to find out information.

Right now he's just about 2 inches in length. I have a 55 gallon aquarium so he'll be okay for a while. He sure is a beauty!

Thanks for the responses. :)

I just wanted to add that I went back to the pet store to see what they called the pleco and they said it was a red fin pleco and again said it wouldn't get bigger than about 5 inches.

Sometimes i wonder how people get their jobs at Fish stores. My lfs knows nothing bout fish lol they just sell them, its annoying really..

Def a gibby mate - hope the lfs didn't charge you too much for it

The only ref I can ind to a redfin is also with blue eyes...HERE

www :)

I know what you mean - it really is incredible! I would feel bad selling an animal that I knew nothing about! At the very least you should know what it's called, how big it gets and what it eats.

WWW - Nope, mine doesn't have blue eyes. I'm sure it's a gibby. I paid $7 at the IFs. I don't know if that's a lot or not, but most of their fish are a little high. It's worth it to not have to drive the 1+ hour to the next nearest one as long as I'm buying only one or two fish.

The IF will take the gibby back when it gets big. They sell a ton of the larger fish so if he outgrows the tank I'll be able to trade him in. Which is good, although I always get attached to the fish.
