So I was feeding my 20 gallon tank yesterday and sneezed which caused me to waaaaaay overfeed. I tried my best to grab what was floating on the top but I'd say plenty made it below.

Any flakes now that remain has a white puffyness growing on them. I have a few options:

1) Vac the gravel but add no water.
2) Vac but add tap water extremely high in haloacetic acid (most people around here drink, cook and give their pets bottled water).
3) Vac the gravel but add untreated RO water.
4) Do this tomorrow and use proper water from the tap at work.
5) Ignore it, its just one overfeeding in what appears to be a now stable tank. Do usual 25% water change on Friday.

I would do either 1 or 3. If the water you'd need to remove is less than 25%, then adding untreated RO, as long as you add it slowly, won't do any harm.

And in future, put a small amount of food in the lid, or in your hand, and feed from that, rather than a full tub ;)

Anyone know what that white puffyness is anyway? It almost looks like a columnaris infection on the food.

I like that lid idea. My gf says to just pinch the food, but I think fish food is gross, almost as gross as a dead fish. (Says the guy with a collective 76 gallons of tank)

The fluffy stuff on the food is the food rotting, so it definitely needs clearing :)

So anyway, had a human emergency last night right after I posted the first one. That being so, nothing got done and I'm going to go with option 4, so bringing the bucket to work.
